Pigeon Point 144th Anniversary Event

Saturday November 12, 2016  1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Join us to celebrate this historical landmark’s anniversary with guided history walks, live music, a native plant sale, and children’s activities.


Sunrise Photography at Año Nuevo

Saturday January 21 6:00 am to 9:30 a.m.

For each of the dates above, you and seven other photographers have the opportunity to photograph and experience the Wildlife Reserve atAño Nuevo State Park before the sun comes up and during the peak of the elephant seal breeding season.  You will be greeted by your guide, a member of parks staff, who will transport youto the edge of the reserve and then lead you to the best viewing sites for the day. 

The event has always sold out in the past so don’t wait to secure your ticket.


Seal Adventures at Año Nuevo

Saturday January 288:30 a.m.to noon

Sunday January 29 1:30 pm to 5:00 p.m.

View hundreds of northern elephant seals at the peak of the breeding season, and spend over three hours wandering the dunes at your own pace. Over 18 volunteer naturalists, parks staff and researchers will be stationed in the preserve to direct you to the best viewing areas and answer your questions about the seals and the park.

Tickets will go on sale to the public November 15. The event has always sold out in advance so don’t wait to secure your ticket.


Coastal Wildflower Day

Saturday April 15, 2017 – Save the Date!

Welcome spring, celebrate California Native Plant Week, andhonor the vital role of the volunteer community restoration efforts at our Coastside State Parks.

There will be fun activities for all ages, games and crafts for young people, live music and artists, plus habitat restoration.
More specific information will be available early in 2017.


Guided Walks and Talks

Guided walk through Pescadero Marsh
Sunday November 6 @ 10 a.m.
Sunday November 19 @ 1 p.m.
Sunday December 4 @ 10 a.m.
Sunday December 18 @ 1 p.m.

Join docents on this 1 mile stroll along the Sequoia Audubon Trail through the Pescadero Marsh. Explore this restored marsh along the Pacific Flyway and
its remnant levees of past farming. Discover the byways of the Pescadero and Butano creeks as they race to the edge of the coast. Please bring layers,
walking shoes, binoculars, and water. Rain cancels. Meet at the central Pescadero State Beach parking lot, just south of the Hwy 1 bridge that crossesPescadero Creek. For more information call (650 726-8819) or email HMBParksVolunteer@Parks.ca.gov.

Guided walk at Burleigh Murray Ranch
Sunday October 23 at 10 a.m.
Sunday November 27 at 10 a.m.

Join us on a leisurely two and a half mile, two hour hike along Mills Creek at Burleigh H. Murray Ranch State Park.  Enjoy one of our area’s hidden trasures as you learn about the lives of the first pioneers and farming families.  Please meet at the Burleigh Murray Sate Park parking lot, located in south east Half Moon Bay.  From Highway 1 turn east on Higgins Canyon Road and you will reach the park in about 1.5 miles.

Guided walk along the Gray Whale Cove Trail
Saturday November 12 at 10 a.m.
Saturday December 10 at 10 a.m.

Join us for a moderate two mile, two hour hike along the scenic Gray Whale Cove Trail at McNee Ranch at Montara State Beach.  Enjoy ocean views, coastal plants, and wildlife on this picturesque hike.  Leftovers from the Ocean Shore Railroad and WWII era bunkers will take you back in time along this trail.  Please meet on the north side of the Gray Whale Cover State Beach parking lot on Highway 1 just south of Devil’s Slide tunnel.

Be a Park Champion Volunteer  
Sunday October 23 (9am to 1 pm)
This workday will focus on clearing brush and taming weeds in the historic orchard previously restored by Park Champions. The project will include using both power and manual tools. Lunch included. Teens ages 14 and older welcome with a legal guardian.

These workdays are part of an ongoing habitat rehabilitation project at Half Moon Bay SB. This event will focus on weeding and other preparations for winter planting. Kids 12 and up welcome with a legal guardian.
